YOUTH ARTS PROGRAM
Research shows that arts programs can enhance at-risk youth’s attitudes about themselves and their futures, increase academic achievement, and decrease delinquent behavior. According to experts, youth arts programs can reduce the influence of risk factors by providing opportunities for youth to learn new skills, recognize their potential, bond with other youth, and cope with the negative influence of risks they face.
BAPart Youth Arts Programs is founded upon these principles and is designed to provide at-risk youth opportunities to discover who they are, identify their strengths, and build skills for creative expression that supports self-discovery, healthy bonding with peers, and coping with negative influences. Without a sense of who they are, youth can suffer from poor self-image and a sense of belonging, which makes it difficult for them to cope with pressures to fit in, and make choices that align with helping them to accomplish their goals.
The arts can cultivate youths' awareness of their strengths, belief in their ability to make good decisions, and closer relationships with peers and family. It helps them become a part of something bigger than themselves.
BAPart Youth Arts program offers young people opportunities to discover who they are, identify their strengths, and build skills for creative expression that support healthy childhood development. Youth receive instruction in various art disciplines during 1.5 hr interactive workshops that provide hands on learning experiences, opportunities to critique art, and field trips to provide real world examples of topics discussed during program sessions. The program features weekly visits from established artists in their disciplines who will share insights with youth about their discipline, and examples of their work. Youth receive coaching from trained, practicing artists who have demonstrated mastery of fine arts principles as evidenced by their reputation in the arts community, and quality of their work. BAPart Youth Arts Programs work through partnerships with non-profits and schools who serve at-risk youth to create equity in exposure to the arts.
The BAPart Youth Program has developed a Self-Discovery Program that is administered to youth Pre K-12th grade in urban neighborhoods suffering from poverty.
